<b>Kathy Jefford</b> in the Heritage College Office of Academic Affairs offers the following response: “Like D.O.s, M.D.s are fully licensed physicians in the practice of medicine and surgery, and according to their clinical level of training, may supervise
or report the OMT codes based on their training. Like other services, such as physical therapy, physicians are allowed to perform those services according to their training. The physician makes the determination based on their comfort level supervising and/or
performing the service and that judgment should have some defensible basis. Hence, it would be preferable to have a D.O. or M.D. with some training and experience in OMT and manual medicine. Ultimately, it is left up to the supervising physician to decide
whether they are qualified to supervise or not. Therefore, the answer will depend on the details of the situation. There is no specific CMS guidance regarding OMT supervision.” Contact Director of Osteopathic Integration
