One Minute Learner erases rotation orientation challenges and clarifies expectations
Expectations and roles during clinical rotations vary for a variety of reasons, such as the physician's teaching style, the acuity of the setting, and the student's knowledge or maturity. The One Minute Learner (OML) outlines six steps (goals, getting going, how much and how long, presenting, charting, and questions) to frame working with trainees in a clinical setting. By using the OML, students can better understand what is required and desired, ultimately improving engagement and learning. A convenient pocket card is available on-line through the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine in the March 2016 Family Medicine Journal<http://www.stfm.org/FamilyMedicine/Vol48Issue3/Hoffman222>.

Proposals now being accepted for research seed funding grants
All Heritage College and affiliate COM medical students and residents within the CORE are eligible to apply for a seed funding grant. The maximum award is $3,000 and requires a proposal to be submitted by April 15. The grants are offered to encourage residents and students to start a research project and gain experience in research methodologies. For additional eligibility requirements and submission details contact Karen Collins (collink3 at ohio.edu) in the CORE Research Office.

One-year fellowship helps prepare for challenges affecting residency training
The Heritage College is offering a no-cost, one-year fellowship training program to help Ohio-based osteopathic and allopathic residency directors and medical education managers build their administrative knowledge and skills and prepare for challenges that can affect residency training. The Academy of Healthcare Leaders and Managers, formerly the Residency Directors Fellowship Program, offers a unique professional development opportunity. The deadline to apply is June 10. MEDICAL APP REVIEW: First steps for evaluating apps
Medical apps for mobile devices are increasingly being used in medical offices. However, with so many on the market -there are about 50,000 medical apps for the iPhone alone - it can be hard to know which ones to trust. At a recent CME session on medical apps for physicians, Jane Balbo, D.O. ('07), and Paige Gutheil Henderson, D.O. ('02), recommended evaluating apps using the following: consider the source or developer; look at the platform; consider its practicality, and whether it has been peer reviewed; think about accuracy, how current the information is and the cost; and ask whether it's easy to use and if there are any conflicts of interest based on who paid or sponsored its development. If you're interested in regular reviews on apps, Family Practice Management<http://www.aafp.org/fpm/viewRelatedDepartmentsByDepartment.htm?departmentId=112> rates apps every month and released a top 10 list for 2015. Here are more details about Docphin<https://www.ohio.edu/medicine/about/publications/clinical-campus-newsletter/march2016.cfm#medical>, listed as a top 10 app for residents, med students and physicians.
