Community health information exchange video features clinical campus
A Heritage College clinical campus site is an Ohio leader in the exchange of electronic health information. Southern Ohio Medical Center and area physicians in Portsmouth piloted the first community health record (CHR) in Ohio. Medical professionals, including Heritage College clinical faculty, are blazing the trail in the development of new workflows and refinement of the patient consent processes to get a single patient record from all participating medical professionals. A video featuring the CEO of Shawnee Family Health and other medical professionals answers many CHR questions. See the video. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCzQSfoJ80k>
New program connects local volunteers to research studies
Ohio University has partnered with ResearchMatch, an online service that connects individuals to researchers seeking to recruit volunteers for their studies. Individuals may sign up for the free service to participate in studies, including those conducted at the Heritage College and its clinical campuses. The free and secure online registry has more than 89,000 registered volunteers and 500 research opportunities nationwide. Finding a common language between D.O.s and hospital execs
An extra year in school isn't for everyone, but Heritage College student Andy Leubitz, OMS III, explains that earning an M.B.A. may help when having conversations in the boardroom with hospital executives. In The Fast Track, a magazine sponsored by The American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, Leubitz talks about how a dual degree program was the right avenue to fuel his interest in improving healthcare. Student work receives kudos
Megan Jones, OMS IV, took third place for the poster award at the Ohio Dermatological Association annual meeting held last October in Columbus. Her poster was titled, "Erythema gyratum repens: a case report, review and discussion of the literature." Also, the abstract submission, "Reasons for Insertion and Predictors of Removal of Intrauterine Contraceptive Devices in an Outpatient Clinic," by Katelyn Tondo-Steele, OMS IV, has been accepted for an ePoster presentation at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists annual clinical and scientific meeting in Washington, D.C., this May. Obstetrics & Gynecology, commonly known as The Green Journal, will also publish an article by Tondo-Steele and co-author Frederick Eruo, M.D.

Immigrant & Migrant Health Conference call for abstracts
The Ohio University Global Health Initiative, College of Health Sciences and Professions, the Center for International Students, and the Heritage College are hosting an Immigrant & Migrant Health Conference at the Ohio University Dublin Integrated Education Center on March 11-12. The conference will address various health-related issues among immigrants and migrants. The collective group invites submissions of abstracts for poster presentations. Poster submissions may describe recently completed work, relevant results of work in progress or a research/project proposal in all areas of immigrant and migrant health. Abstracts can be submitted online<https://ohio.qualtrics.com/jfe1/form/SV_9Fhf2fIJVAXGj65>. The submission deadline is Feb. 10. Final call for OOS abstract submissions
Abstracts are being accepted for the 2016 Ohio Osteopathic Symposium Poster Competition, which is sponsored by the Heritage College, the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) and the Ohio Osteopathic Association. For the first time, the poster competition is open to both D.O. and M.D. residents and students. Faculty, administrators and practicing physicians may exhibit but are not eligible for competition. The deadline to submit abstracts is Jan. 31. Contact CORE Research Grant Writer/Editor Karen Collins (collink3 at ohio.edu<mailto:collink3 at ohio.edu>) for more information about the competition or to request an abstract submission form.

Do you use apps for patient care?
Heritage College Assistant Professor of Family Medicine Jane Balbo, D.O., is seeking information about how health care providers and medical students use smart phone applications for patient care. She hopes to learn more about what apps clinical faculty prefer to use, how they are used, and what apps are recommended to patients. Balbo will be presenting two talks about apps at a March conference. If you would like to share your information with her, please send an email to balbo at ohio.edu<mailto:balbo at ohio.edu> by Feb. 5.
