This is the inaugural electronic newsletter for our clinical faculty members. This monthly publication is intended to provide you with easy access to news and resources to advance your career as a teacher and a mentor. News and Announcements

Enhance OMM skills and earn CME credit
We are offering a professional development opportunity on Oct. 23-24 with world-renowned osteopathic manipulative medicine expert Edward Stiles, D.O. The two-day OMM Skills Enhancement Course provides the opportunity to earn up to 14 CME 1-A credits. A presentation by Anthony Haeufgloeckner, D.O., will also be offered to help clinical faculty enhance their teaching and evaluation skills. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 9. Faculty/student tech connection study funded
Larry Hurtubise, an educational technologist in the Office of Faculty Development and assistant professor in the department of Family Medicine, has been awarded a $10,000 grant by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine as a result of funding by the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation. Hurtubise is conducting a study of faculty and students attending regional or extension campuses of osteopathic medical schools to learn how technology is being used and whether it affects the connection between students and faculty. Heritage College opens facility to support clinical trials
The Clinical & Translational Research Unit, which is located in Irvine Hall on the Heritage College's Athens campus, provides support to Ohio University faculty at all stages of clinical research and studies involving human subjects. Support includes help with budget development, project coordination, subject recruitment, data collection and institutional review board assistance. Assistant deans named
Philip (Duke) Starr, III, D.O. ('95), the assistant dean at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, has agreed to serve as interim assistant dean at Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital, replacing Dennis Kane, D.O., who retired from the position. St. John Medical Center Emergency Medicine residency program wins award
The American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP) has awarded the Research Flame Award to the St. John Medical Center Emergency Medicine residency program. The award is given to the ACOEP residency program that earns the highest score for senior papers, as determined by the ACOEP Research Committee. Heritage College opens new campus
In a day that Heritage College leaders called a major milestone, on July 8, medical students arrived for their first classes at the new Ohio University campus in the Cleveland area. The Heritage College turns 40

Networking group for women launched
The Heritage College has launched ohiowomen in medicine, a professional networking and mentoring group for Heritage College alumni, friends, students and employees. The group is intended to support female graduates in their careers and encourage women to become more involved with the college and the university.
