Save-the-date for OOS 2016
Mark your calendars for next year's Ohio Osteopathic Symposium, which is scheduled for April 20-24 in Columbus. The poster competition will be April 23. Last year's symposium, co-sponsored by the Heritage College and the Ohio Osteopathic Association, had 800 attendees - the largest turnout in its history. Members of Heritage College family earn AOF awards
Award winners in the American Osteopathic Foundation's Honors 2015 included three medical students from the Heritage College, an alumnus in residency, and the wife of a recent Heritage College graduate. The winners with a connection to the Heritage College include Julie Creech, OMS III; Andrew G. Little, D.O. ('12); Ashley Coleman, OMS IV; William Plunk, OMS II; and Stephanie Wagler, wife of Josiah Wagler, D.O. ('15).  Read more.<http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/ClinicalFaculty/2015-10-more.htm>

Heritage College to host 2015 TEDMED conference
On Nov. 18-20, the Heritage College will host the TEDMED conference, providing streaming video hookup for its academic and clinical campuses. TEDMED is a health-and-medicine edition of the well-known TED conference. Sites for live streaming will be announced closer to the conference date. Resident receives top neurosurgery research paper award
Joseph Georges, D.O., Ph.D., a neurosurgery resident at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital Columbus and Grant Medical Center, recently won first place in the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons 2015 Annual Resident Paper Contest for the second consecutive year.

'Your Doctor is also a Teacher' brochure available
The Heritage College has created a brochure explaining the benefits of receiving care from a doctor who also teaches medical students. The brochure can be used to help patients learn about the role of medical students in a clinical setting. For more information, clinical faculty members who are teaching first- and second-year medical students should contact Joanne Bray (bray at ohio.edu<mailto:bray at ohio.edu>) or Mike Yeager (yeager at ohio.edu<mailto:yeager at ohio.edu>) in Athens, Pat Lambert (lambertp at ohio.edu<mailto:lambertp at ohio.edu>) in Cleveland or Lauren Donahue (donahuel at ohio.edu<mailto:donahuel at ohio.edu>) in Columbus.

Clinical faculty encouraged to participate in 'Blue Circle Challenge'
The Diabetes Institute at Ohio University is asking clinical faculty members and others to participate in the "Blue Circle Challenge" as part of Diabetes Awareness Month in November. The blue circle is a symbol for diabetes, and those who take up the challenge should create a human blue circle then email a photograph to diabetesinstitute at ohio.edu<mailto:diabetesinstitute at ohio.edu>. Throughout the month, The Diabetes Institute will be hosting several events including a 5K race and a research seminar. $18.5 million grant for immunology research awarded to clinical faculty member
Longtime Heritage College advocate, clinical faculty member and honorary alumnus Leonard Calabrese, D.O., has received an $18.5 million grant from the Richard J. Fasenmyer Foundation. According to a news release by Cleveland Clinic, the grant will allow Calabrese to continue and expand the important immunology research he has long pursued with colleague Michael Lederman, M.D.

New director of clinical education announced
Holly Jacobs has accepted the Heritage College director of clinical education position, which was recently vacated by Sarah McGrew, who retired. Jacobs previously served as the associate director of student affairs at the college. Jacobs has more than 25 years' experience in higher education and medical education administration. In her new role, Jacobs will oversee clinical education activities across the college and clinical campuses.

Curriculum coordinator position for clinical education created
Noël Davis is the new curriculum coordinator for clinical education. She previously provided support for the first- and second-year undergraduate medical education curriculum through the Office of Academic Affairs. She has more than seven years' experience in team management and training. This is a new position created to assist with the coordination and development of the clinical education curriculum.

Resident selected for ACOFP leadership position
Tristan E. Wade, D.O., a family medicine resident at Summa Akron City Hospital was selected to serve as the resident representative to the Ohio chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.
