[Classclimate-users] Class Climate Issue

Did Scantron have any suggestions for how to correct the number of participants?  I am getting further inquiries from faculty about the error.

We have a support ticket in with Scantron regarding 1) the slowness, and 2) the doubled number of participants.  If you’re concerned with the response rate calculations, you can manually adjust the number of participants used in the calculation from the Survey Details page (display surveys, click on the name of the survey/course).  As far as the usual results reports, they are calculated based on the actual number of responses, so I don’t believe that an inaccurate number of total participants will affect those stats.  If anyone disagrees, or knows of a calculation (besides response rate) that would be affected by the total participants, please share with the group.

I’m hearing from students that they are having trouble completing the survey because everything is so slow.  Is there anything that can be done, Megan?  Can OIT help?  This happened in the fall as well.

Megan,
I think you are probably already very clear on this, but…
When you re-loaded it seemed to have doubled the number of students in the class, but in a way that does not affect the calculation of the response rate.

The question is how will the reporting look at the end….?

Hi Carolyn,

How are the PLTL courses populated in Class Climate?  Are they added automatically by the data load or do you create those manually?

We should have clarified in the original notification:  The courses which are loaded automatically by the data load were restored, however, any manually created lists are lost and will have to be re-created, because these can’t be restored by re-running the data load.  I’m sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you.  As I mentioned earlier, we are still looking into what exactly caused the disappearance of all the recipient emails from the system.

I had the CHEM PLTL classes (these are "TUT" classes) done then Wayne pointed out the problem.  I looked and sure enough no participant email addys.  Deleted the PLTL evals and re-created them, still no email addys.   But, I do have returns on many of my other evals which began this week.

Hi All,

OIT is looking into the cause of the missing recipients with the help of the vendor, but in the meantime, we’ve re-loaded them back into the system.  Our spot-checks have found the participant emails intact, but those of you who still need to generate surveys and scheduled tasks (or have surveys in progress), please check your courses and let us know if you find any courses missing emails.

Please note that surveys in progress should be fine, its just that some of the emails have been delayed.  Depending on the timing of the tasks, you may need to re-execute a reminder email.

Hi Marlene,

I really don’t know. I have spoken to a few departments who have had the same problem, and heard that this was not Arts and Sciences specific. However, I just spoke with Chemistry and they started their evals earlier this week and are running fine. They were setting up their tutorials and those were empty. So it did affect some of their sections.

You may be okay, but check to see if emails are present. This can be done by clicking “Display Courses” and selecting the semester. Edit a course and then “Administrate participants”. If you have emails, you should be okay. Mine are empty.

Many of you may already be aware of the problem, but there was an issue with the Class Climate data dump. Courses were loaded with number of recipients, but the email addresses were not included and these are needed to send out the surveys. OIT has been notified and they are looking into the problem.
