<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">You are receiving this message because you have a current active appointment as a student employee at Ohio University.&nbsp; Effective October 2013, the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) revised the
<a href="https://www.opers.org/forms-archive/F-3.pdf">Request for: Optional Exemption as a Student</a> form (Form F-3) and the
<a href="https://www.opers.org/forms-archive/F-3_Instructions.pdf">Request for Optional Exemption as a Student Instructions</a>. If you wish to be exempt from making contributions to retirement on your student salary<a style="mso-footnote-id:ftn1" href="#_ftn1" name="_ftnref1" title=""><span class="MsoFootnoteReference"><span class="MsoFootnoteReference"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;mso-fareast-language:EN-US">[1]</span></span></span></a>,
 you need to submit form F-3 within your first month of employment.&nbsp; This form needs to be completed and submitted to the Payroll Office within 30 days or retirement contributions will be withheld from your paycheck.&nbsp; NOTE:&nbsp; it is possible that your supervisor
 has already requested this form from you this semester.&nbsp; If you have already submitted it, you do not need to do so again.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Only those students who meet the minimum requirements for enrollment are eligible for exemption.&nbsp;&nbsp; The minimum requirements are enrollment in at least six (6) credit hours for undergraduate students and five
 (5) credit hours for graduate students.&nbsp; By completing this form, students are requesting an exemption from required employee contribution to the OPERS pension system, which is currently 10% of earnable salary.&nbsp; Also, pension service credit will not be earned
 for applicable student employment.&nbsp; If a student later becomes a member of OPERS, the student may be eligible to purchase this exempt service per Ohio Revised Code section 145.28.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
