Greetings all,

It has been a busy semester. Before many of you get out of Athens for
Spring Break and leave a few of us here with the cold weather, I wanted to
let you know about a few positions changes/needs for the coming year.
Should you be interested in any of these positions, please feel free to
contact me directly. I would like to chat with you about your interest in
one of our leadership positions here at Bird Arena. The following brief
descriptions are provided to let you know a little about where we are
headed in the coming year.

*Supervisors*:

We will be scheduling a supervisor in the building from open to close in
the coming year. Being responsible for opening/closing the building and
providing supervision of the facility and staff during their assigned
shift. Supervisor will be responsible for basic facility check and
reporting issues to the student managers, facility director and emergency
maintenance. Supervisor will be responsible for the operation of the
emergency action plan and overseeing care for participants and spectators.
In the coming year we will be responsible for staffing all operational
hours of the facility.

and events. Inventory control and working with vendors to keep concession
stand in compliance with all university, state and federal guidelines.

Center & Bird Arena.

*Pro-Shop Manager* - Responsible for the overall operation and functions of
the Pro-Shop. Responsible for ordering, stocking and tracking sales within
the area. Education and training of all employees that work within
the pro-shop
and direct oversight of the operation during large events. Provide support
to Bird Arena programs and events. Inventory control and working with reps
to keep Pro-Shop stocked with essential products for the patrons and the
OHIO Hockey teams. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director Campus
Recreation Aquatics Center & Bird Arena.

employees within Bird Arena working with other student managers to ensure
facility is properly staffed. Responsible for tracking and completion of
necessary certifications, education and training for all Bird Arena
Employees. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director Campus Recreation

*Event Operations & Maintenance* *Manager *– Responsible for the operation
of all events and supporting the programming offered within Bird Arena.
Provide support to all programming and events, insuring the facility is
ready for and cleaned up after events. Ice maintenance will be one of the
main responsibilities of this position. Tracking maintenance requests and
following up with Facilities Maintenance on repair work being done around
the facility. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director Campus
Recreation Aquatics Center & Bird Arena.

*Learn To Skate Manager* – This position will be responsible for the
operation of the Learn-To-Skate program. This includes the development and
maintenance of group and private lessons. Recruitment, evaluation and
retention of instructors. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director
Campus Recreation Aquatics Center & Bird Arena.

*Marketing Manager* - The Program and Facility Marketing Assistants will
support Campus Recreation to communicate events and information of a
designated program and facility within the department. The assistants will
report to the Campus Recreation student Communication Specialists and share
office hours between Bird Arena and the Campus Recreation Marketing
Department offices. These persons will aim to align the vision of each
program and facility with the brand standards of Campus Recreation and
Student Affairs. Attached is the complete job description for this
position.

*Interview Process:*

Interviews will be conducted and hopefully completed by the end of March.
If you are interested, I will need a letter of interest. This states you
level of interest in the position and why you feel you are qualified for
the position. I will also require a resume for these positions. This is a
good opportunity to develop your resume and interviewing skills as we move
toward graduation.

*PLEASE NOTE:* Because the need for beginning the education process for
new managers and the increase in the number of supervisors, the process for
moving into student leadership is changing. I will also be adjusting the
education process for all leadership positons (managers and supervisors) as
we move forward. While we would like those moving into manager positions
to be a supervisor first, the greater need is to place individuals into
these important roles and begin the education process. Therefore, I am
removing the requirement for being a supervisor before becoming a student
manager.

Lastly, as I continue to assess the operation here at Bird Arena, I may
look at additional help for these and/or other areas. I do hope to have a
complete job descriptions by the end of Spring Break. While I sort out the
details, these are the basics of each position as we move forward. As you
may have guessed, there is some restructuring going on and that will have
an effect on most of our operation here at Bird. This will involve a new
organizational structure as well as the introduction of some different
systems. Hope to have more information as we finish out the school year.
Should you have any questions, please let me know.

In the Swim of It,

Joe
