Prof. Howard,
I am not sure if you want the greetings to be written and be posted some where, or say it orally, in any case:
In Tigrinya we commonly say, "selam kemey alekin?" 'alekin' is for feminine plural. I would prefer to address the audience as feminine in that occasion. The other way is: "selam kemey alekum?" 'alekum' is for plural men and women.
If you want to write it, since we use our orthography, I can help with that. It also sounds good to welcome the participants in different African languages as you did the first semester.

Abraham

friends: best wishes tomorrow for International Women's Day and all the African women included in that! And as I get ready for our big conference on Women and Children's Health in Africa at the end of the month, I am wondering if any of you could share any very basic greetings in African languages that you speak- that are essentially an inquiry about health... like in English, "how are you?" is essentially an inquiry about health. thanks

I am excited about the upcoming conference. In twi, we ask "3te s3n" "apom
te s3n?" which literally means how is your health?

Best,
Michael
