[ASU] Email Disclaimer

Dear one & all,

It is unfortunate that my email was loosely misinterpreted and misread, and in some cases deliberately too, and referenced out of context which caused unprecedented reactions some of which were sensational and seemingly based on preconceived prejudices.

However, this disclaimer is intended to lay straight and amend whatever cracks that my expressed concerns seemed to have created in the last hours. First, I want to strongly iterate that my email was loosely based on some degree of ignorance on my part as to the constitutional provisions of ASU as related to the matter. In as much as this is not justifiably vindicative enough, I want to appreciate and complement efforts by Christine and Abobo to make that straight in their characteristic gentleness. Second, my email was NOT in reaction to or a snipe shot at any particular nominee as many persons have deliberately interpreted it to be. I am truly amazed how some persons can be quick to appropriate an issue and misinterpret through opaque lenses to settle their personally internal discomforts. Sequel upon the in-sensitivities and injuries that the reactions to my email certainly has caused some persons both in the former, current and prospective administration, membership of ASU and its image, I feel morally obliged to sincerely apologize to any individual or persons for injuries sustain on their personalities.

I am therefore in the spirit of Easter wishing you all compliments for the season and to express my sincere remorse to whatever wrong perceptions and injuries on ASU that my email turned out to generate.

I am wishing good campaigning and politicking to all aspiring for ASU exco in what promises to be an exciting electioneering in the annals of the Union.

Sincerely,

Flavius

Dear Flavius and others.
Without beating too much on you, the ASU is open to any student who is interested in its affairs. We have always had "non-indigenous" Africans in the executive, including President. E.G. Maryanna Vaickauski - 2000; Denise Hughes - 2001; Jackie Gayle - President 2004; Erica Butcher and Erica Allen - 2006; the list goes on and on.
Its not that deep bro.
Musonda Kapatamoyo, ASU President 2001

I dont know if this is right but i think Edwina's reaction is not in the best of taste as far as decency in language is concern. I would want to say that in reacting to Laura's acceptance of her nomination, i was careful not to tread on dangerous grounds such as race and all that because as Abobo stated it is forbidden in Ohio University which i applaud very much. i have read the constitution and therefore understood who qualifies and who does not. In this case she qualifies perfectly, my only concern was that a position such as Vice President requires some one who knows more and has been around the organization to warrant this position.

Was that last comment in response to Laura's nomination meant to me some sort of a joke.

I have never seen such closed mindedness before. Please explain the logic in turning away someone who is trying to display commitment and enthusiasm for an otherwise ineffective collection of megalomaniacs claiming to represent ASU?

Laura, as a former ASU member, I apologize for the rude sentiments of hopefully one individual. However, if this individual is speaking for the group, I no longer wish to be affiliated with the group.

Good luck to the new administration. I hope u guys are not as short sighted, egocentric or ethnocentric as your colleague.

Edwina
