Subject: Re: ASU PRESIDENCY

*Dear Prosper:
Thanks for your letter of protest regarding the African Students Union
(ASU) election that was conducted on Saturday February 28, 2009. I have
investigated your allegation regarding the election process and the
election results. I requested for and got written memo from the outgoing
ASU President while I also interviewed eight ASU members who were present
on election day. I also talked to a faculty member.
Based on these investigations and granted that some mistakes were made
during the process, these did not warrant the annulment of the election
results. My investigations reviewed that you have not been active in any
ASU events. In fact, all the students I interviewed said the first time
they saw you at any ASU function was the day of the Presidential debate.
When I asked you whether you were present at the Africa Heroes Night, you
said you were not present. You even told me that you do not know that ASU
has a constitution because you have never seen one. On election day you
requested for a copy of the constitution, which one of the ASU members
brought out immediately and showed to you. I presume if you have been
active in the organization, you would have known that ASU has a
constitution and a web site. Despite all these, the election results were
not even close at all between the winner and the loser. After the election,
you conceded the outcome of the election result and even congratulated the
winner of the Presidential election. You told me that your protest was an
after thought. The fact that you did not know the faculty advisor of the
organization confirmed your inactivity in the group. You came to me after
someone directed you to contact me because you had no idea that I am
the faculty advisor. Of course, I have been involved with ASU as their
faculty advisor for more than six years.
Therefore, I have concluded (based on my investigations) that there is
no justification for the results of the ASU Presidential election to be
annulled. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
