Greetings,

I am passing along some scholarship information I came across. I am not sure about anyone's eligibility for such awards however, I thought I would pass them to you for you to determine whether or not you could take advantage of them. Some of the dates will show that the deadline has passed. Ignore this. Sometimes there are not enough candidates that applied or the website is not updated and you can still apply. See below:

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Socrates
on democracy advocates three courses of action for those who disagree with the
management of public affairs. First, he persuades the dissenter to pack bag and
baggage and leave the state—exile. Second, retirement into inactivity; what the
Ghanaian may refer to as “country broke or country no broke, we dey inside”, a
clear path for the passive. Third and finally, he persuade us to join the legislators
to bring transform the status quo.

I consider
myself to be part of the third group. What about you? It is easier to make your
voice be heard than to submit to the status quo. It is easier to stand up and
be counted than to watch the union from a distance. I urge you to take action
today by joining hands with Prosper Yao Africa Tsikata to bring that transformation
we are all looking for to make our union a stronger one.

Going
back to the issue of manifestos—public declaration of intentions—we have all
seen how some ideas, for example, an African restaurant in Athens could not
stand on its feet when the time came for intentions and programs to face the
contest of public scrutiny.

1)      Forging
stronger relations between African students and their African-American
community

2)      Serving
as ambassadors for the African community (African students and the intellectual
community)

3)      Provision
of services to meet the need of African students

i.
Exploration of external funding opportunities for students
of Africa descent.

ii.
To strengthen liaison between union and health insurance
providers.

iii.
Improve transport services for students

iv.
Explore ways to improve accommodation.

v.
Intensify communication within the union.

4)      Transparency
and accountability within the union

i.
Setting benchmarks based on manifesto (performance contract).

ii.
Designing membership, nomination form for background and
verification of information for those who want to lead the union.

iii.
Overhauling administrative procedures of the union with
emphasis on record keeping.

As we
draw closer and closer to Saturday 28, 8:30 pm, I wish to remind all African
students who have a vote to make it a point to make sure they satisfy all the
prerequisites of the electoral commission in order that they are not prevented
from casting their vote on the D-day.

Brothers
and Sisters, let’s consider this important process as essential for our
democratic credentials as representatives of the continent. Let the ideas
inspire you to rise up and be certain you are counted.

Love
you all,

Prosper
Yao Africa Tsikata

Hello,

The electoral committee would like to bring to your attention that as mentioned
by the ASU treasurer, only those who have paid dues for last quarter and this
Winter quarter will be allowed to vote on Saturday.

We had made a mistake in our previous email and we apologize for that.
Hope to see you on Saturday.

Sincerely
The Electoral committee.
