Chapter Minutes 9/20/09

·      Jamie from Big Brothers/Big Sisters

o   Lost funding, staff

o   Had to cut school mentoring program

o   Needs help with:

§  Activities: Halloween party

§  Money and fund raising

·      Fund raiser at end of Feb.

o   Bowl for Kids’ Sake

o   Groups of 5 raise donations (aim is $100 per person=$500 per team)

o   Ending party is at Rollerbowl

·      Service Week

o   Get pumped and ready to rock!

o   Theme: “Blue and Gold go green”

§  Focusing on environmentalism

o   Nov. 1-7, 2009

o   Organizations we’re looking to work with:

§  Local schools

§  University

§  Office of sustainability

§  Habitat for Humanity

§  ATCO

o   Committee meeting Monday 9/21 at 8:30 in Baker Food Court

·      5k Run to Empower

o   Oct. 10, noon at Ping

o   Need volunteers for:

§  sMile markers and scream team

§  Registration tables

§  Race-day sign-in tables

§  Food donations

§  Look online for specifics

·      Youth Service

o   Invited to Chauncey Elementary to help with after school running club

§  MWF 3:40-4:20

§  Maybe 1-mile fun run

§  Special days are Fridays

·      Service

o   Sign-ins box! Please bring them or send via email!

§  Embarrassing things commence next week if you don’t bring sign-ins

o   Sign up for weeklies

§  Metal cleaning has not started yet, everything else has

o   Oct. 5-9 WOUB pledge drive

§  6am-9pm

§  1-2 hour shifts

o   Keep checking the web site

o   Still trying to get in touch with people for service with the elderly

o   Donations for Cardboard City will also be on the website

§  Things like food, drink and DUCT TAPE

§  Bring either to the event before 6 or to the Habitat office that Thursday

o   BBB sewing parties count as service
